                | | Gen-Con was Awesome! | |
          | We
had a great time in Indianapolis. We've exhibited at Gen-Con
many times before, but this was the first year that we also had
our own demo space, akin to our Big Experiment room at Origins.
Since we do all our annual tournaments at the Big
Experiment and this was just about playing for fun, we called
            this a Little
Experiment, as we did at UBCon
and as we will next week at DragonCon.
It makes a big difference having a gaming room of our own
at Gen-Con, and we kept it busy all weekend long. The only problem
with it was the long walk between the demo room and the exhibit
hall, which meant we who worked in the booth never had time to
get down there until the evenings. Of course, having our own demo space meant needing more help
            from our Rabbits
in running it and keeping everyone having fun. Fortunately, we
had a few of our best Rabbits on hand to get us started, and
we got dozens more (literally!) signing up at the show to help
us, often getting started as soon as they'd filled out our Rabbit
Recruitment Form. So here's a big thanks to everyone who helped
out, in particularly our starter core: Carol,
            Josh,
            Fred,
            Michael,
            and of course, Russell,
our wonderful Rabbit Coordinator. You guys rock!

          | The
            new promo card
we made for this event was for Chrononauts, and it's called the
            Teeny
Tiny Time Machine. If you weren't lucky enough to get one
free at Gen-Con, don't worry... as soon as we get back from Dragon*Con,
where we'll start giving out the last of this year's series of
new promo cards, and we'll be making the set of 4 new Chrono-promos
            available through our webstore.
The 2004 Promo Card Pack will not, however, contain The Star,
a special Fluxx card which we've been awarding to those who complete
the tasks in our Little Experiment. Since it's a prize card,
the Star can only be earned, but don't worry, we're planning
to create other opportunities to earn the Star in the future. Other random things:
I met a dude named Rogue who has created a fully-realized
prototype of a Star Trek edition of Chrononauts.
I even played it, and I'm very impressed with his Timeline. I've
often thought that the Star Trek universe would make great grist
for such a project, but it's wild to suddenly see it brought
to life. He says he's also done a Star Wars version of Fluxx...
I wonder what it would take to work out the licensing issues
needed to publish such things. (Secret Message
to Rogue: can you send me
your email address? I never got your contact info at the con.)
              Werewolf
games as usual lasted all night every night. I was surprised
and delighted to learn that one of the most active and skillful
players is a woman who's completely blind!
Over and over again, people came to the booth to compliment
              us on Stoner
              Fluxx and the brochure
about it we've been giving out which talks about why we published
it. People are telling us that we're changing their opinions!
Anyway, it was a great Gen-Con but all we have time for now
is to catch our breath as we prepare to head back out to the
next big convention on our schedule, i.e. DragonCon. I hope to
            see you in Atlanta!

                | | "What better way to win the war on drugs
than to eradicate the war itself? As a child I was always told
that walking away from a fight made me a bigger person than actually
fighting it. Right now we are pummeling the low-income residents
who smoke pot, but you and I, Mr. Ehrlich, have a chance to help
them back to their feet with education rather than punishment.
I think that our current war on drugs is comparable to the unsuccessful
prohibition of alcohol in the early 20th century. Alcohol was
out of control before it was legalized again and I think that
marijuana will follow a similar path." --
                  Jennifer Stavish's letter
to Governor Ehrlich, urging him to legalize marijuana in
                  Maryland |
                | | "With the respect to the
question of relationships, my general view is freedom means freedom
for everyone... People ought to be free to enter into any kind
of relationship they want to." -- Vice President
                  Dick Cheney, August
                  24, 2004 |
                | | "Now, 35 years after the fact, some Republican-financed
Swift Boat Veterans for Bush are suddenly lying about John Kerry's
service in Vietnam; they are calling him a traitor because he
spoke out against the Nixon administration's failed policies
in Vietnam. Some of these Republican-sponsored veterans are the
same ones who spoke out against John at the behest of the Nixon
administration in 1971. But this time their attacks are more
vicious, their lies cut deep and are directed not just at John
Kerry, but at me and each of his crewmates as well. This hate-filled
ad asserts that I was not under fire; it questions my words and
Navy records. This smear campaign has been launched by people
without decency, people who don't understand the bond of those
who serve in combat. As John McCain noted, the television ad
aired by these veterans is 'dishonest and dishonorable.' Sen.
McCain called on President Bush to condemn the Swift Boat Veterans
for Bush ad. Regrettably, the president has ignored Sen. McCain's
                  advice." -- Jim Rassmann,
