Chapter 33 of The Empty City

"Hey, Bill! That atomic bomb you gave us didn't work!"

"Really?" said Bill, as he placed plates of sourdough pancakes in front of The Four. "Then I guess it's back to the drawing board."

"Tell me, Bill. Did you really think that thing was an atomic bomb?"

Bill leaned down, and spoke quietly. "Of course not, Norman. But I didn't think it would matter. Would you ever push the button on a REAL atomic bomb?"

The Four all laughed, and dug into their pancakes. The sunlight of the new morning warmed them through the plate glass windows of "Dollars to Donuts."
