VAMPIRE
my lover says my breasts are pretty
they twice define
the act of gravity finding
divine recline

he says death is like the night air
and love’s a fire
I say they’re all the same—fire, air
expiring, desire.

we have seduced one another,
he says. I say
I am like the moon on a gray sea
I stay till daybreak

(in waves like starlight my kisses
seep inside him
setting up a warmth, a dim hum
brimming each limb)

please, he pleads in pale fear, tell me
teach me I’ll learn
is it true that love’s a burn, an
eternal burn?

I put a finger to his lips
love silenced waits
while my dark breathing creates rest
and satiates

I whisper yes, love is endless
then lost forever
and softly I and stars above
cover my lover
