G: We went with Rich and Izolda to the opening night of
Artomatic
on Friday. It's at the New York Ave. exit of the Red Metro line - you
can't miss it. It was a bit crowded. We found the stairs so we didn't
have to wait for the elevator - the exhibits started on the 4th floor.
Robin Bliss caught up to us there. We saw all of the 4th floor before
it was time to go see the fire spinners outside. That was fun for a
while - especially the woman with the hula hoop covered in torches.
Petra found us there. We didn't stay for the whole show because after a
while it was more of the same. Rich and Izolda got some veggie tacos at
a fancy roach coach. Then we went to find John and Robin inside,
because he couldn't come out with the beer he bought. With a few phone
calls we all got back together on the 12th or 11th floor. We saw Thofer
there, he had some art up again this year. I saw a handful of other
acquaintances and such as well. And lots of art, most of it at least
interesting, some of it good. I enjoyed it. I recommend a visit - it
goes for about a month.
We (or at least I) saw the 12th thru 9th
plus the 4th floor, so I want to go back on another hopping night to
see 5 through 8. My studio mate is on the 5th floor - go see
her stuff! And there are other Greenbelt artists there as well.
Saturday was the
Greenbelt Greenman Festival.
John and I participated in the opening drum jam (he with a few of his
didjeridoos, me with my drum). We then hung around a while checking
things out. John had to go to work for a little while, and I had to
take off for Lisa's baby shower. Renee picked both Izolda and me up in
her NEW CAR! (cue Price Is Right music). I had a nice time at the
shower, and I mostly chatted with Paula.
After I got home, Chris
was here and the three of us went back to the festival for a while.
Then we went to Ralph and Mary's for a cookout. It was a small
gathering and very nice. It was a lovely evening for hanging out on the
deck. I played with their baby a little bit, and he was very cute and
sweet. Rich showed up at the party, and after a couple of hours there I
left with him to meet up with Izolda, Alex, and Renee at the Majestic
for a movie (Baby Momma). Perhaps we will review it later, so no
comment now.
Sunday we got in more hanging out at the Greenman
Festival before it got all rainy. They moved the music inside, but it
was crowded and I didn't feel like staying anymore so after Kiva had
played for a while John and I went home. I relaxed at home until it was
time to go to dance night, Chris came back from the Festival and went
with me. Fun dancing. I got complimented on my frame from Alex (making
it easier to throw me, which is a lot of fun), another compliment on
how fun it was to dance with me, and a criticism from Chris on how my
frame wasn't strong enough to deal with his crazy moves!
