comedy is not pretty

G: It would seem like we did some stuff since last week, but the only thing I can remember is Saturday night. Chris came back into town and we went to EJ's Landing at the Best Western in College Park for some stand up comedy. They were having a sort of contest for comedians; we were supposed to vote for our favorite after watching them all. It was $5 to get in.

There were probably 15 or more comedians on the list, so we settled into a booth and ordered some stuff. I asked for a mojito (it was on the menu) but the waiter said they were out of the mix. That was a close one (mojitos from mix not so good), but I asked for a pina colada anyway; the waiter looked worried and never came back.

A different server brought us food we ordered - baked potatoes (which were small but fine), veggie spring rolls (which were tiny and not fresh - frozen and microwaved), and 25 minutes later, the broccoli I ordered that I had wanted to put on my potato.

No pina colada ever showed up either.

That place sucks.

Anyway, the first comedian was pretty bad, but kinda funny in the way that an older clean cut guy would be if he made some weird observations and cursed a lot. The second guy was pretty funny, so I thought it was going to be okay. We had a string of mediocre ones and then a couple of interesting ones, and one good one. Then it was bad bad bad bad bad. The place was crowded though, and there ended up being a problem with people at the bar talking during the acts and making the comedians mad and the MC yelling and cursing at them (of course he was yelling and cursing whenever he was up on stage) and them being thrown out. It got kind of uncomfortable so we left before it was over, with maybe 3 comedians left to go.

I suggested we go to the College Perk and so we did. We got some better food there. There was a band playing and the place is very small and they were very loud (WHY people does this always happen). I also got a mojito that wasn't sweet enough but strong. I had to add a bunch of sugar. The last time I had one there (months ago) it had way too much sugar. I also got some chamomile tea, because I was wearing shorts and a light sweatshirt and while we were out the temp dropped into the 50's and it rained a bunch.

Landrew was there, and he told Chris there was a girl there upstairs who is the daughter of some old friend of theirs and they used to know. So Chris hung out with her somewhere for a while before Landrew, Chris, and the young lady (I forgot her name) came to sit with us. We all had a lot of fun chatting. Greg C. showed up and he was pretty happy to see us there. He hung out there with us until I got tired and we left.

Sunday and Monday were both kinda lazy-hang-around-the-house-days. I read my new Dr. Fuhrman books, did some house chores and cleaning, cooking, internet surfing, etc..

poker justice

J: Welp, here are my latest poker stats for all to see (thanks Sharkscope). I've managed to break into $75 no limit texas holdem single-table sit-n-go games and I feel quite comfortable at this level. I've noticed that the tables fill slowly at higher buy-ins, so sometimes if I'm rarin' to go I drop down a couple levels, and buy in at $20 or $30. I still usually play only one game at a time. Playing even two tables at once is hectic!

As you can see from my stats, Mondays are most profitable, and Tuesdays and Thursdays have shown losses. Since I don't play many games on Thursdays anyway, I'll try to make that a day off. That might be difficult to implement... I love to play. And I'm only talking about not playing online games on Thursdays. Thursday nights I often play the "toughest penny poker on the East Coast" with my friends.

Since I started the meta-game of managing my poker bankroll -- and subsequently watching my profits increase -- poker is beginning to feel more like a part-time job. It's still a lot of fun though, and the opportunity to learn more could last as long as I continue playing.

Bad beats and cold decks don't bother me much at all lately. Luck is not something I can control. When I play badly though, that really gets me angry sometimes. I'll have to work on making it a constructive anger. Doing OK so far...
