G: The big
news this week is John's cataract surgery. He had his left lens
replaced, and he and it are looking good!
Friday night we went down to the New Deal around 10pm to see if the
bands were still playing and they were. We saw lots of friends there
and hung out. But I got sleepy around midnight and we went home.
Saturday after my yoga duties (and the pilates class I took) I went to
my studio. John and Rich were already there, helping Pam and her
husband Ray move heavy furniture out. Pam is leaving the studio, and
she will be missed. She was extra ordinarily helpful and quick to lend
a hand or tool. Rich had to leave but Dave showed up soon after to help
as well. Meanwhile, Mark G. came to help me with my new wheel. He
drilled new holes into the wheel head, because the old ones were set
too close together for any of the bats to fit on them. Then we turned
it on it's side to see if we could do anything to eliminate a bit of
vibration. Mark took some things apart and fooled around with it for a
while, but it didn't seem like anything could be done. I'm not even
certain it's much of an impediment - I haven't used the wheel enough
yet to see if it's really giving me trouble.
Dave came back to our place and spent the day, and we chatted with Kory
and played a game with him over Skype (w/video!). That night we
went to a movie at the Majestic and ate at Mandalay - Dave's first time
- he liked his food a lot. At least I think that was all Saturday -
maybe some of that was other days.
Sunday we went to a game night party at Tim and Liana's. I made
guacamole to bring. We met some neat people and played some games. John
played Uptown, and I played Balderdash. I took an early lead, but lost
in the end. Still, fun. Then those of us who were still there late
played Why Did the Chicken...? That was fun too.
We had Mark and Jessica over for dinner Monday night as a thank you for
Mark working on my wheel. I made a quinoa and nut loaf, a red lentil
stew, and salad. After dinner we played Uptown. A lovely evening.
And Wednesday John had his surgery. We drove up to the Wilmer Eye
Institute and waited most of the time - I had to leave to make it to
teach a class on time before John was done, so I left just before he
went into surgery and his Dad picked him up. He is already seeing
better, but his eye is a bit scary looking.

my new bionic, bloodshot eye, and no reading glasses! Weeeee!
