G: On
Friday we went to a party at TVTom's his second annual Plato's Birthday
Party.

There
was potluck food and a campfire and lots of wine. But I
didn't drink any. I borrowed a sharpie from Tom's new house mate Laura
and went on cup patrol most of the night. I wrote people's names or
whatever they wanted on their plastic cups to reduce the number of cups
used. And then I ended up using three cups that night - my original
one, and then Justin had made a rum and coke for Dave but he didn't
want it so I took it. Later I was downstairs and thirsty and someone
offered to bring me some water but they weren't willing to hunt down my
cups so... dang.
People were encouraged to dress up like their favorite philosopher, or
in Renaissance gear, or anything. I wore the Renn dress I bought at
Ronda's auction and my elf ears. Looked pretty good. John didn't dress
up but pretended he was a lumberjack and prepared the wood for the
fire. Robin Bliss had an interesting costume, she wore a cute sexy
black outfit but had little baby arms and legs sticking out of her
belly - and was carrying around a book full of old pictures of people
with such things as parasitic twins hanging off of them. Nancy brought
a fellow who dressed up like Riker and looked remarkably like him. I
had a blast calling out to him, "Hey Riker! Number One!" and poking his
communicator brioche (which made the appropriate sound) and saying into
it, "Hey Picard! Beam you ass down here - there's beer! And Earl Grey
Tea!"
Saturday....had my shift at Greenbelt Om, then took Laura's class, then
that night we went with TVTom and met Rizolda and Alex at the Uptown to
see Blade Runner: The Final Cut. Traffic was bad so we got off the
beltway
and were a few minutes late into the movie, but that was okay.
Afterwards Tom saw a couple of friends of his - one of them, Hai (sp)
had been at the party the night before. They joined us for a late
dinner at a cute little Mexican restaurant down the street. Very yummy
chips & salsa. Lentil soup much too salty. Salad with avocado and
hearts of palm yummy. Fun conversations about the movie, and Hai
cracked me up when 1. I noticed he bumbled a corn chip and it landed on
him somewhere, 2. I pretended to throw a chip at him, because, you
know, chips were like, flying everywhere, and then 3. When I looked
away he dropped a chip into my hand. Like, a chip just appeared in/on
my hand. It was funny I tell you! Guess you had to be there. Then I was
a jerk and threw a chip at him for real. But we were just giggling
about it.
We went home but Tom and Izolda came over and we played Poison and
Euchre until very late. We had fun.
Sunday was the second annual Greenbelt Triathlon - but not many people
knew about it and only a small percentage of them showed up. Alfredo,
John, Nancy and I all ran around the lake twice (2.4 miles or so). Then
Alfredo, John, Luisa, Joe R., TvTom, and I rode bikes to Franklin's.
Nancy and Luisa were a relay team.
I was the last of the four of us in from the run, and TVTom waited for
me to ride with him, so we were last. But I came in 3rd (still last)
among the
folks who completed all three sections. The last section was drinking
two carbonated drinks at Franklin's (heavy lifting). Alfredo placed
first and John came in second.
I know macadamia nuts are bad for dogs, but I left some in reach of
Katy, and either Monday night or Tuesday morning when no one was
looking she got a hold of a nearly full 12oz bag and ate them. I found
out when I noticed she was not feeling well Tuesday afternoon. I had to
run off for work but when I came home I decided to look around the yard
for vomit or something, and found the empty bag. I was quite worried
for a moment and called the vet and they could take her about an hour
later, then looked it up on the web and found that although she would
feel sick and wobbly and weak for a while, it would pass with the nuts.
John took her to the vet but they didn't do anything but say to watch
her in case it was something else. She went outside around 2 in the
morning and threw up a bunch of whole macadamias, and today on her
morning walk she pooed
out a lot. She's felt fine since.
