birthday amusements
G: I've
been painting my desk, and I'm finished except for a couple of small
touch ups. I wanted to buy cute or pretty drawer pulls, but when I went
to Home Depot all the drawer pulls they had were too big. The screw
holes were much wider than the ones in the desk already. A worker
showed me chest drawer pulls that looked like the right size. Even
though I wasn't crazy about them, I didn't have another choice. Upon
closer inspection, I could tell that the screws they came with were too
small, so I had to look around and find wider screws that would work.
So I got all this stuff, brought it home, opened up a package of pulls,
and found that the screw holes are off by a smidge. I can't use the old
ones because one is missing. I guess I will have to go with knobs.
Last Thursday was my birthday and John, Renee, TVTom and I went to
Hershey
Park. It was overcast and not too hot, so we never tried out their
overly chlorinated water park or rides. But we thoroughly enjoyed their
newest and baddest coaster,
Storm
Runner. Someone else's pix
here! It goes
from 0 to 72 mph in 2 seconds - then straight up and down.
We had a great time and got back to town in time to go to the Looneys -
where Andy had 3 cakes - a chocolate angel food cake for Kristin, a
non-chocolate ice cream cake for Renee, and a vegan chocolate cake for
me. How sweet!
moving along
J: In a similar way that one of
my favorite hobbies is dishwashing, one of my favorite sports is
helping friends
move. In
the list of stressful life events—weddings, funerals, and... divorces?—
moving is one where I feel useful. The technical and physical
challenges are also good, of course, but I like the way moving
someone's home gets me past the rituals and advertisements, and
straight into the nitty gritty of real life.
