a christian wedding

G: I forgot to mention last week that I went to see an art and craft exhibition at the Strathmore with some pottery colleagues on Wednesday. There were some really lovely pieces. There were a couple of very cool kaleidescopes.

John and I took Katy to Quiet Waters last Saturday. She had a blast. That night we went to a house cooling party in DC Saturday night for Rebbecca. We took Greg along. John and I played a game with Donald's daughter Cynthia - Mad Gab. There was a live band playing in one small room, and there was just one other room and a kitchen and bath - very small. So it was difficult to hear but we had fun with the game. People, like Greg and Cynthia, got up and sang with the band. I noticed a picture of Jack Sparrow on the door with some drawings made from it, and figured it was part of the party fun, so I found the pad of paper and did one myself - and then John, Greg, Donald, and Cynthia all did one, and John and I did extra silly ones for good measure. Donald took my suggestion and made Sparrow part Popeye (the arms) and drew in some cans of spinach and also the S.S. Minnow. Greg did a very nice simple line drawing. As we were working we found out that the drawings were going to be judged and the winner would have something mysterious happen. Everyone voted for one and my drawing had the most votes. Then I was presented with a large lamp and told I had to draw Jack Sparrow on it. I was pretty scared I was going to mess it up (permanent marker) but I like how it came out. All I need now is some paint and a lampshade in the shape of a pirate's hat.

Izolda and I were going to go to Rehoboth beach last Thursday but it turned out it was going to rain there that day so we postponed our trip. Friday night John went to a poker game I went with Rich, Izolda, Renee, Alex and Janet to Macaroni Grill - where I took their "build your own pasta dish" list and turned it into a "build your own pizza" list  to the amusement of everyone. We had crayons we were drawing on the paper tablecloth with, and I used that to write PIZZA really big across the top, checked off what kind of sauce I wanted, wrote NO CHEESE really big under that, crossed off the 3 and wrote 5 for number of toppings you could choose and checked off 5 toppings, and wrote CRUST really big on top of all the pasta choices. Our waiter was very accommodating and said it would be fine. The pizza was pretty good but they were pretty stingy with the toppings which were poorly distributed over the pie face.

On the way in there we passed a stage where auditions were being held for performers who wanted to busk at metro stations. There were a bunch of kids singing into a mic but no discernable sound was reaching our ears and we weren't very far away. As we passed Izolda turned off saying, "I have to fix it." Apparently she went up and adjusted the sound system so that the performers could be heard. She even went back up and adjusted it a few more times for different types of performers while we were waiting for our table. She was a superhero - Random Sound System Woman!

After dinner we went to see Ratatouiile at the Majestic. Petra and Liza met us there. It was a fun movie!

On Saturday we went to Christian and Noelle's wedding at The Cloisters in Baltimore. A wonderful setting, a beautiful wedding, amazing wine made by the bride and groom, yummy food, nice people, fun times. Harp playing settled us in, and the Rogues playing bagpipe and drums signaled the end of the ceremony and kicked off the reception. They played again later and it was fun watching Noelle and others do some Irish step dancing to the music.

worse than heathens

J: As  anyone who knows me can attest, I dabble in an ancient belief system that is thousands of years old and based on nature, meditation, and careful observations and manipulations of energies.

Our kind contemplate the Great Mysteries and hope to someday plumb the totality of the Universe by practicing the Central Method.

Historically, our practitioners sometimes had to work in secret and were persecuted by many organized religions, including especially the Church in the middle ages, yet we survived many purges. Today our cult is growing in number, but is more popular in Europe than in the US.

Some call our ancient discipline curmudgeonism, and one of its sacraments involves dumping cold water on irrational beliefs.
