G: I had a
busy week. I decided to go to some
Al
shows in PA, and bring a few
friends. On Thursday Rich, Izolda, Kevin and I drove up to Glenside on
the the other side of Philly. We got an early start and didn't have too
much traffic. We got to town and ate at a Greek restaurant that was
nothing special. The food was good but way too oily for me. Next door
was a collectible toy store and we all went in and oooed and ahhhed
over the dolls, magazines, and games we recognized from our childhoods.
Then we saw the show and it was awesome.
We had a party on Friday. It was nice. I had gotten mint from my
CSA,
so I also got some other ingredients and made lots of mojitos. And they
were good.
Saturday we went to a birthday party for
Chort at the
Adelphi Mill.
It
was in celebration of his 50th. Paula sang a lovely song to him (from
Guys and Dolls I believe) and then a recorded song was played for a
one-step. Turned out to be a song about Chort that was commissioned for
the occasion. The quality was muddy and I couldn't really make out the
lyrics, but after a minute Chort started hearing his name in the song.
What a cool surprise! Also there were lots of friends there to hang out
with. John saw some he hadn't seen in twenty years.
After the party we went over to Alex and Renee's to hang out and watch
a movie. Rizolda came too, and it took a long time for us to all agree
on a movie. I hadn't seen Demolition Man and everyone else seemed to
want to watch it, so we did. Once it started John said he'd seen it and
it was terrible. It was pretty bad, but we had some fun with it and
still enjoyed ourselves. Sandra Bullock was cute.
I had an obligation that comes with my studio space at the community
center - to run some sort of workshop for an Artful afternoon once a
year. Four 30 minute mini pottery wheel classes in a row. 10 spaces per
1/2 hour available. I had 10 for the first and second, 6 for the third
and 7 for the fourth. Everyone really enjoyed it, and it was fun. The
studio manager helped me clean up quickly afterwards. I was heading to
another Al show in PA, this one in Reading, knowing we couldn't get
there in time for the beginning because of my workshops. Then Renee and
Alex were a bit late to my house, and we stopped for food and made a
wrong turn at one point. Plus it was pouring rain nearly the entire
trip. The show started on time at 7:30 and we got there at 9pm. The
part of the show we saw was great, but missing so much was a
disappointment.
I started more classes (teaching) at
UM Art and
Learning Center on
Monday. In a couple of weeks I'll start a couple at Greenbelt community
center, and that will be it until the fall. Yay for time off!
