G: Well, John is in CA for work. He flew into San Jose at about the time Kory started driving from there to here to move back. But backing up a little...

Last Thursday John and I attended the 100 Bowls of Compassion for Miriam's Kitchen. It was held at the National Building Museum. This is the second time I've donated some pottery to be in their silent auction, the last time was three years ago. It was pretty fancy, very nice and very enjoyable. Right after we came in I noticed a table where they were preparing mixed drinks, and I saw lots of limes and seltzer. I sidled up and said, "are you making mojitos?" The guy said they were similar, but without the mint. We got some glasses and they were good, but too sweet and could really have done nicely with the mint. (I used to not care about mint as a flavor, but ever since I learned about mojitos, I have much more interest. Lately I'm pretty likely to want my chocolate to be mint. A bit ironically, mint is on the list of things that I was not supposed to have with my acid reflux, and one of the only things I didn't have any trouble avoiding because I didn't care. Now that I don't suffer from it much anymore, I'm into mint.) There were friendly volunteers bringing tiny appetizers around all night, and a dessert table where everything was bite sized as well.

There was lots of beautiful art for auction, and a lot of other Greenbelt artists were there as well. Jeri added up what all the Greenbelter's stuff went for, and we raised about $2,875!

Last weekend was the Greenbelt Greenman Festival. I made some really nice mugs especially to sell there. I joined up with my friend Mark Gitlis to get a booth. We set up early Saturday morning. He had about 5 times as much stuff as I did. Business was slowish, and I did about as well as I have the last two years, just so-so. It's still fun to be out there. I couldn't see but could hear the Greenbelt Drummers circle and John playing his didj. They sounded great. I saw lots of friends and had a nice time. But I didn't sell a single one of my special awesome mugs.

I didn't plan on doing the second day since it's such a pain to set up and break down. I still got up early to take John to the airport. Mark said he might do the second day and he ended up doing so, and said business was even slower than the first day. I'm glad I just enjoyed myself instead. I caught up on sleep, and went down to the Festival late but just in time to watch "Who Killed The Electric Car." Who would have thought that a movie about cars could make you cry? It's really evil what happened. But I think there is hope in plug in hybirds...

After that, I walked around and saw people. I ran into Luisa and we decided to get food at the New Deal Cafe. Volunteers for the New Deal were selling tomato and basil plant as a fundraiser outside. The Cafe is in danger of closing because they can't seem to stay ahead of the game, so the community is trying to pitch in in various ways to help keep it around.

We sat outside to wait for our food and Luisa decided to try to collect money for the New Deal too and thought we could sell kisses for a dollar. Someone handed me a piece of paper and a pen to make a sign, and Luisa implored our friends around us to give us dollars for kisses for the New Deal. We raised $80! There were a few hugs and extra donations in there too.

I went home and walked Katy - she is so funny sometimes. When I let her off the leash in the school yard, she runs around in big circles, throwing her legs around in all directions. I've never seen a dog run so silly and happy!

Then I put on a dress almost exactly like one I used to wear in high school, and that my guy friends called "The Sock." It's just a plain knit dress that's like a tank top and skirt in one piece; blue. This one has buttons all down the front. It was 80's night at Alex and Renee's dance night. I put on makeup and heart shaped sunglasses and a bannana clip. Lots of fun 80's clothes were worn by most everyone there.

Mango went to the vet - she is 13 and starting to decline a bit. She's in fine spirits, just drinks more and is suposed to eat low protien food now. I don't know if I can convince her to do that...

Kory made it to Maryland, but that's next week's news.

J: No rant this week. I'm outta town.
