first symposium
G: Friday night Izolda and I met
up with Petra, Renee, and Janet at the Lebanese Taverna in Silver
Spring. We stayed eating and chatting a long time, then got in a few
minutes at Borders before they closed. Janet and Petra had to go since
they work on Saturdays, and the rest of us went to McGinty's Irish Pub.
We got a booth in a tiny room off the main bar that had two booths.
There was music upstairs but we didn't feel like paying the $3 just to
see. We stayed there a pretty long time just chatting, girl talk
mostly. Since the subject of bras came up, we had fun imagining that a
guy at the bar within view of us was getting quite the show with all
the pointing and indicating and touching of our breastal areas. I told
Renee that she should stand up with her back to him and flash us her
bra, but she didn't.
We attended the
Salus in
Platones party hosted by TVTom and Roger at
Tom's house on Saturday. The party started at 7, but when we got there
at 8 (in costume) the party was in full swing. There were lots of
people there, many we knew, and many we didn't. I wasn't feeling very
social at first but I drank some wine and loosened up after a couple of
hours. I did have a brief, somewhat philosophical conversation with
George about
veganism.
John and I were the last to leave.
Wednesday our unkling Jonathan visited with his friend Jason. DNA and
Laura showed up too. Lori made a tasty dinner and later Jonathan played
some songs for us on his guitar. He has a wonderful voice and he's a
really fine lyricist too.
On Thursday John and I met Alfredo and Kelly to see
1964 The Tribute in
Baltimore. These beatly guys were lots of fun. Thanks for the tix, Lori!
J: Don't forget to forget to buy anything on
Buy Nothing Day
next Friday. Or at least buy locally. Have a Happy Thanksindians!
easing the shock
If you want to keep from getting shocked when you step out of your car,
hold onto the door frame as you step out (remove your glove first if
you are wearing one). Make sure you are holding the frame before your
foot touches the ground. Continue to hold the frame as you stand up.
That way you make a nice solid connection between the car's built-up
electric potential and the ground.
When you don't hold the frame or
some metal part of the car (painted metal is fine), after you stand up
you are ready to become
the transfer medium for electrons. You reach for the door, but before
you can grab it the electrons arc across from your hands, finding a way
to relieve the surplus electrons your car has collected along the road.
Making firm contact with the car before you ground yourself reduces the
gap, and the zap, to zero. Try it!
