running to the festival

G: We had a nice long weekend. Friday we had our usual party, and celebrated Lori's birthday. She had a great time. We mostly lazed around the rest of the weekend, slowly cleaning up, but on Sunday and Monday John came jogging with me. He pooped out early on Sunday, but on Monday we did the whole 1/2 hour - went down to the town center, where a band was still playing and the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival was wrapping up. We hung out there with John and Anja for a while, then walked over to Dorian and Amethyst's. We hung out with them for a while.

Tuesday was Lori's actual birthday and we went to Chevy's for dinner. I had a card for a free meal since last time I was there I found a plate shard in my food. We had the guacamole - made at the table - and that was really good. John ordered a portabella and asparagus fajitas and I was going to share it with him. Lori ordered some sort of spinach enchilada and asked for no peppers. When the food came the enchiladas had some pepper mixed in and she sent it back. She was helping us finish our dish while trying to pick out something else, but after a few minutes it became apparent that after all the chips and salsa and guac, the fajita dish was enough for all three of us, especially since we've all been eating pretty low fat lately. We asked for the bill, figuring we needed to pay for the guac, but they said no charge for anything! So that was nice. We went to the Silver Diner for dessert.

sleep dep pulled ma's rug

J: I noticed in the news that fathers can get postpartum depression, too. Which made me think a couple things.

Why does this kind of depression have such a cryptic name? Why isn't it simply called "new parent depression" or "wow, I forgot how much work this is, why am I so stressed out?"

Also, it's widely known that sleep deprivation can cause severe depression. Newborn babies need a lot of attention at odd hours. If that doesn't give sleep dep to both parents, I don't know what will.
