Renn Faire (Mall of Horror)
J:
Saturday was cold and wet outside, which is sometimes my favorite kind
of weather. Along with lots of wwwoods surfing (that's geek-ese for
wandering in the woods) I picked a big bagful of shroomberries in the
place Rich told me about last week and in another place I found on my
own. Meanwhile our logs at home bore us more shiitakes.
While I was fiddling around with shrooms, Gina and Dave went shopping
at Pangea and Dream Wizards. I played two of
Dave's purchased games -- Poison
and Mall of Horror
-- with Chris, Leo, Rich, and Dave. While we were busy being killed by
zombies, Gina, Lori, and Izolda played DDR and other video games. Oh,
also I cut Kory's hair with some electric shears. He looks great! Here's
a picture of Kory's new do.
On Sunday I went to the Renn Faire, to help Xtian surprise Noelle with
a marriage proposal. Michael
Rosman, AKA Squire of the Wire (a very funny juggler/balancer guy)
does this little bit at the end of some of his shows where amidst
joking with the audience from a high wire he asks Noelle to marry him;
she refuses by saying "it's too soon." This time after the usual spiel
he sent her behind the stage to get something. Xian and I walked on
stage with a bamboo frame covered in roses and a plush moon and stars
hanging from it. Noelle came out from the curtains right under the
frame. While Noelle's mom and I held the frame over her, Xtian made a
very sweet speech to Noelle in front of a huge crowd. Mike had even
mic'd him, so everyone there heard him clearly, and cheered loudly
after Noelle happily said "Yes."
Other highlights included listening to Morwen play recorder on stage
with a medieval band called Wolgemut. The music featured some dallying
with a Led Zeppelin riff. Johnny Fox did his usual sword-swallowing and
magic act, and added a very touching monologue/eulogy regarding one of
his old friends, Melvin Berkhart,
the guy who invented the "blockhead" trick-- that is, hammering a large
nail straight into your head through your nose. I also enjoyed Hans the
German juggler guy, and the Squire of the Wire; they were both very
funny.
Monday night I conquered a rock climbing problem with the Calamari Dumb Nazi
ball on an ice wall. You Calamari nuts out there will know what I'm
talking about. The rest of the Calamari nuts in our house had given up
but I persevered and rolled up some seals and things as a reward.
With poker, yes, I'm still addicted and still learning. I've had some
bad beats and good lessons lately, as I continue to develop my winning
(haha) style.
G:
I'd just like to point my fellow Gaskets fans, and everyone else, to
their new video.
It's B, A, D, (BAD!). But also silly, strange, interesting. John says it's
fascinating; he really liked it a lot. Is that Igor (their manager)
playing the hitlerian mad scientist dude?
I guess I will
also mention that I'm doing Dance Dance Revolution every day and really
enjoying it, and slowly getting better. I can do some of the slower
songs on standard!
