The Apatosaur's Head
G: On Friday we
went to see Six Characters in Search of an Author at the Greenbelt Arts
Center. We know the director, Betsy Delany, and our friend Christian
was in it and we were the lucky ones who got his complimentary tickets.
It was gloomy and bizarre, and left me with a lot of questions. John
seemed to really enjoy it.
On Saturday we had some other free tickets, courtesy of Luisa, to the
Green Festival at the DC Convention Center. The three of us went to the
metro where people were POURING in to go to the big anti-war
demonstration. Luckily we all had fare passes ready and got through the
station pretty quickly, but once on the platform there was some delay
with the trains and we had to wait a while. When we got there we'd just
missed Dennis Kucinich speak, but saw Diane and Brian coming out of the
session. So we walked around, getting samples of this and that, looking
at crafts, and learning about all things green. We also met up with
Alfredo to see The Real Dirt on Farmer John, and quite enjoyed it.
Sunday Mike McMullin came over with a guy named Nick and Greg Clark to
shoot a scene for a film he is making about telemarketers and the
people they call/interrupt. The scene stars me and Luisa. Look for it
at a theater in the heart of Greenbelt in a year or two.
So, I've had my second week of wheel classes and things are going well.
I am always amazed at how well my beginners do. I struggled for so long
at Alfred U., because I had no real instruction. Just quick demos and
you're on your own. It probably took months for me to get to where most
of the people I teach get to in two classes.
J: Just returned from
another Franklin's ride, natch. I've been playing WAY too much poker
and so other less important things like this website, bills, clean
clothes, and what have you have been falling by the wayside. So instead
of actually finishing this week's news (or last week's, for that
matter), let me entertain you with a wacky theory of mine which is my
theory and is mine:
As we all know, brontosaurus was discovered to have really been an
apatosaurus with the head of a camarasaurus (found miles away from the
apatosaur site) screwed on, so actually the brontosaur never existed.
But whither the large apatosaur's little head? Whither indeed! See,
much like lizards of today, the apatosaur could escape its enemies by
losing its tail and growing a new one. But it could also do the same
with its head. That's the reason why it had another brain in the base
of its tail, and why its midsection was so large-- it needed a large
stomach to process food while its headless body was bumbling around,
unable to eat.
I have added a little to last week's news, in
case you are interested.
I have some fascinating stuff for the heap, too, but it will have to
wait until tomorrow or the next day. I'm late for a poker game.
