Backyard Crash, Palm Crash, Poker
Crash
J:
What did we do this week? Not much, but we still have some filler-type
news items. Y'know, the usual GinohnNews stuff.
For instance, here's an interesting tidbit: I rarely fall asleep
outside, but I fell asleep on Saturday, twice— once in the hammock
during the day and once near the campfire that night. The campfire in
the back yard was a spontaneous event; I think Lori instigated it (and
helped me prepare the fire tepee), Gina quickly rounded up many nearby
friends, and Rich and I started the fire with much blowing and many
matches because the tinder was a bit wet. Renata's grandchild,
Cameron, fell asleep by the fire, too.
My new weekend hobby is <drum roll> — helping friends move! OK,
it's a new hobby or a bad habit, but either way it keeps me off the
streets and I'm getting free food and a great workout. This weekend I
helped the Chalkers move more stuff out of their old house. Along with
the free food and Gatorade, I snagged a few free books.
Gina's PDA stopped responding to screen taps, so I took it apart,
cleaned it, inspected connections, and trouble-shot some functions by
turning it on while it lay in pieces all over the bench. That was
pretty cool. Then I put it back together again and now it's working
great! Except it still doesn't respond to screen taps. I've learned a
lesson though-- like with cars, one should always buy a well tested
product, and stay away from newer models that might not be as reliable.
Don't know if they are selling any anymore, but stay away from the Zire
71. I saw lots of similar complaints about Zire 71 screen problems on
the web.
Ronda had a big birthday dance party at the New Deal Cafe Monday night.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and company, but I had to cut out
early. I had double-booked a poker game that evening.
Overall I played a lousy game of poker. At first I played well and
accumulated a good amount of chips. Then the usual fatigue set in and I
went on tilt, losing some hands to exceptionally bad play on my part.
By the time I pulled my act together it was too late. I busted out with
three jacks. Not good enough-- Justin had three jacks and a king. A fun
game, tough opposition and worth the entertainment value (five bucks),
but next time I'll bring the caffeine with me.
We (Stacy, Lori, Gina, Izolda, and I) played Why Did The Chicken last
night and had good good fun. Lori played very well for her first game
and in my opinion she was the best reader, too. Stacy seemed to like
the game a lot, which is a great nod to the Chicken, because I can't
think of any other game Stacy
likes. I had a lot of fun watching her laugh so hard. Izolda, still
freshly funny from playing non-stop at Origins a couple weeks ago, won
the game with some very silly punch lines.
