Diversions from Emptiness

J: Short form today. We're finding diversions from our empty house lately. Here are some examples:
  • Thursday - Gina, John Marketon and I had a retiree lunch at Franklin's brew pub for my boss, who in the interest of privacy probably doesn't want his name mentioned here. I bought him a beer. I think he's already enjoying his private leisure life.

  • Friday - First Friday, where we found diversion by filling our house with friends. I got soaked in the rain at the campfire.

  • Saturday - Rich gave us tickets to a production of Defending the Caveman, and we met and talked with Kevin Burke after the show. Then we went to a nearby Irish pub called Four Courts, and had dinner with friends Jeff & Arthi and Cindy & Mark. After that Gina and I bounced over to Jake's place to attend Cuyugacon. I played WDTC, then some German "oops game" that was kind of like pick-up-sticks.

  • Sunday - Went with Nan, Shaun & Mi Ae to the Toulouse Lautrec exhibit at the National Gallery in DC, then we walked over to the Botanical Garden where Shaun works and where there was a celebration of the Wikes expedition. Tim Whittemore was there playing his didgeridoos, and I played a little too, and he gave me another small but very informative lesson where I learned a new group of sounds to practice. Then I perused some amazing plants with the rest of the gang. I made Gina smell a huge corpse flower, after Shaun got me to smell it. Yup, smells like old roadkill. Then we all went to Chinatown Express for hand-pulled nooooooodles.

  • Monday - We bought a new car! A Scion xA, "Indigo ink blue." Gathering inspiration from the color and the tag, which begins with "8AM D...", I named the car Lucifer. Now that we have enough cars, I've started lusting after thinking about motorcycles. Mostly I've been ogling at my favorites— right now I'm drooling over a Monster Duck and a Naked Guzzi. This may take a while to save up enough money...

  • Tuesday - At Gina's clay class I threw two "objects". We'll call them a "vase" and a "mug". Gina's a great teacher! She manages to balance individual instruction with group instruction.

  • Wednesday - Birthday dinner for Dorian at Franklin's, then more fun over at Diana's place, where I'm headed when I finish this. Her house is close enough to easily walk to. Gina already walked there. The night is warm and breezy.
