Lofty Plans
J:
Our
First Friday party went well this month. There was a lot of singing and
instrument playing, and Marlene belly-danced! We decided that we wanted
to wake up earlier the next day so we shut the party down at 2:00 AM.
We really didn't have anything to do on Saturday, but for many First
Fridays I've stayed up till five or eight in the morning, and that was
fine; I always had a good time— but the rest of my weekend was shot. So
this time we closed down early; the guests were great sports with this,
they all thanked us and left fairly quickly. We're hoping everybody
comes early next month.
On Saturday I went out to the lumber store and bought 2x4 beams for my
loft project— I'm putting up a loft for the bed in our guest bedroom.
So I spent the whole day sketching and calculating and purchasing my
exact hardware requirements. On Sunday after moving a lot of furniture
and building a good start to a mere skeleton of the loft... I ran out
of hardware. I haven't gone back to the store yet so the house is still
reeling from the effects of guest room remodeling.
On Monday night Alfredo came over and brought some tequila, tortillas,
and home-made vegan picadillo with avocados. He gave us the recipe,
too, which we'll upload to our Lunch
pages soon. Luisa also showed up (she's back from her vacation!
Greenbelt is whole again!), and we had a wonderful and very spicy
dinner. Later Kory came over and he, Booda and I walked
with Luisa back to her house. After we came back home Kory, Gina, and I
watched a DVD of the movie Pauly
Shore is Dead. (We're a lot behind with our HMRs so the review for
this movie will show up later.)
Tuesday night we met Susan Barnett and Mi Ae at the New Deal to discuss
their new startup watershed protection club which doesn't have a name
yet but one idea for a name was the Beaver Dam CLAWS (Creek Leading
into the Anacostia WaterShed?).
They have many plans to get people interested in monitoring and
cleaning up run-off and pollutants in the local water areas, and they
wanted to talk to a member of the Forest Preserve Task Force (that's
me). We had a great chat, but I got a bit fatigued due to a little cold
I picked up.
Today I still felt sickish so I stayed home from work. I used to go to
work when sicker than this, but lately I realized that I don't like it
when my coworkers bring their diseases to the office.
