Starting the Year Off with a Groan
J: Sometimes the crap really hits the fan hard. Booda's enlarged tonsil turned out to be Squamous
Cell Carcinoma, a particularly nasty kind of Cancer. The good news is
that the surgeon was pretty sure that he got the whole tumor, and the
biopsy lab agreed; all the cells at the severed part of the tonsil were
healthy. The bad news is that, well, it's cancer, so we suddenly have a
bunch of questions, some without answers. Booda will get checked out
again on Monday, and we'll probably end up consulting with a Cancer
specialist.
So that was just yesterday that the biopsy results came in, and Gina
and I are feeling stunned, sad, and scared. Booda hasn't felt all that
great either— hopefully only because he just got a tonsil pulled out of
his head. I mostly have a feeling of being very small, which is
sometimes a great feeling of awe—the "tiny speck in a gigantic
universe" thing—but lately the feeling is more ugly, maybe like a tiny
speck on the hair of a giant monster hyena haunch's gnat.
Before that particular crap hit the fan, we had a great time at two
parties— Trog & Maren's Eve Eve Party and then a New Year's Eve
party the next night at DnA's place. At Trog's we participated in the
traditional hat making contest, with hats made from wrapping paper and
ribbons and prizes for everyone! At DnA's we had a nice little bonfire,
dancing, drinking, celebration, and drumming and didging. Somebody
accidentally kicked the end of my dij while I was playing and the
energy was transfered very efficiently into my mouth, and it gave me a nice
big fat lip. So I iced it and drank a potion of schnapps with creme de menthe,
which worked and tasted sort of like liquid Ben Gay.
I still have a lot of work to do on this site, new tombstoners,
pottery, etcetera, but it'll have to wait I'm afraid. I'm picking up
Kory at the airport tonight, he's been on the West Coast recharging his
mojo.
Speaking of Kory, he and I are mentioned in a text book of game design! Neat.
