We're Baaaack...
J:
Yes, we're
back from our trip to the Canarias and Madrid, and we have lots of
pictures and a trip log to add to the site, but not yet, sorry. Some
quick items that come to mind though:
- It's
still possible to get a passport (renewal) in one day, the day before
you leave the country.
- Smart Cars sure
are cute. We tried to get one to follow us home but it didn't. BMW
enclosed scooters were all over the place, too.
- For
us tall people, in Spain the beds are too short and the showers are
just the right height. In the U.S. it's usually just the opposite. Gina
likes the pillows. They are longer and not as deep, but comfy.
- The
Madrid Metro
system kicks DC's ass!
- As
in France, people in Spain stay thin. I suspect they accomplish this by
walking a lot and smoking a lot.
- I
have a lovely collection of motorcycles and scooters on the sidewalks
of Madrid. Perhaps you should see them sometime.
- Madrid
is very dog friendly. People walk their dogs, sometimes on leashes,
sometimes off. The dogs were well mannered.
- Our
mascot for the trip was Carlos III.
His happy cartoony face turned up in a lot of places.
- Madrid
drivers are goood drivers! We never saw an accident. The traffic was
fast and precise.
- But
we saw a lot of injured people walking around, like bandaged arms or
black eyes. Maybe accidents, or muggings? dunno...
- Security-wise,
going to Spain was nicer than coming back. Spanish security isn't half
as tedious, bossy, or oppressive.
