Renée and Alex Got Married
J: Thursday - Had a good time at game
night. I won at three games: High Society (I have a secret system), Ra
(I was a little lucky), and Limits (I was very
lucky).
Friday - Went to Renée and Alex's (RNA's) wedding
rehearsal dinner at Lupo's Chop House, a meaty restaurant but they made
us some good vegan dishes too. At first I felt like a freeloader
(because Gina is in the wedding party but I am not) until Renée
sent me to her house for a couple things. Then I had some good food,
wine, and conversation with old friends: mostly Greykell, Diane, and Dave Choat.
I haven't seen them in a while, it was good to catch up a little.
Saturday - In the
afternoon I helped Joey dig a foundation for a big sweat lodge he's
planning to build. I also helped him move a huge log, without hurting
my back! I told Joey that I was one of the first people who used
his sweat lodge, even before it was constructed.
Later I attended RNA's wedding and subsequent festivities. They had a
wonderful wedding with speeches, vows, a juggler, lots of laughing, and
dancing. Renée's dress was
very nice. Gina had pretty all over her face. Afterward we ate some
fine food and cake. Kory and I played pin ball, and the pin ball
machine crushed our souls.
G: I got up early
to go to Fantasy Nails and Spa with the rest of the bridal party, and
also Renée's
sister-in-law-to-be, Gabby, and her mother, Amy, who treated us all. We
got pedicures with frills - sitting in a massaging chair, cucumbers
over the eyes, feet and legs briefly massaged, pumiced, and toenails
painted. We also got our fingernails done. It was my first time getting
a pedicure and I'd only gotten my nails done once before, when I was in
high school. Since I work with clay I never even thought about doing
this before, but I actually enjoyed it and might get another pedicure
before the summer is over.
From there Izolda and I went to RNA's to help set up for the wedding.
We spent the rest of the day setting up chairs, making more decorations
and putting them up, and doing whatever needed to be done. Then there
was the hair and makeup and getting dressed, and even though it felt
like we were running late, we got the procession started almost right
on time. I'm sure the ceremony will be written about on other's pages,
so suffice it to say that it went well, looked good, and was enjoyed by
all, I believe. If John enjoyed it, it couldn't have been bad! It was a
lovely wedding, and Alex and Renée looked very
happy.
J: Sunday - Gina & I went to RNA's
wedding brunch, more food and mimosas. Then we drove to Jenny's place
to celebrate the anniversary of her birthday. We went out to the movie
Super Size Me, and then ate gooood food in a slight
rain outside a Thai restaurant.
Then we went back to Jenny's pad to watch Capturing the Friedmans, a
very creepy documentary.
Monday - We stayed
up late watching Sex
& the City DVDs. Hey, it was
either that or house chores.
Tuesday - While
Gina worked, I went to Bethesda with Shaun & Mi Ae, and Kory and
Rich, to play Pub Trivia at Rí
Rá. Cyril & Grace, the MCs, had fairly thick Irish
accents, so they had to repeat the questions a lot, but they were very
entertaining, and the crowd stayed in good cheer all night. Over ten
teams competed against each other. Our team, Team Zendo, didn't come in
last. We came in second to last, by one point. But that was because
most of the other teams had more people. And they were smarter. Anyway,
I'm not usually a big fan of trivia games, but I had a really good
time, mostly due to the festive atmosphere and the Guinness &
curried french fries, of course.
