Fire and Rain
J: Not much time
to write because I drained what little energy I had writing four HMRs. Here's a synopsis of our
week:
- Thursday -
Heard Henry Rollins
speak at the University of Md. He's nonstop lottsa energy, very
engaging. He told many funny stories; one was about a recording he made
with Adrien Belew and (get
this) William Shatner.
- Friday - At
our first Friday Party two banjo players who had previously not known
each other (Banjer Dan and Bob
Pile) coincidentally showed up with instruments in tow. They played
some really nice tunes together.
- Saturday -
Went to a burn at Trog's. His friend who has recently retired from
the military ceremoniously
burned her fatigues. Later, dinner at Jake's: played Cluzzle, and playtested a new Kory
game.
- Sunday -
Greenbelt Community Center art opening, Gina has some pieces there.
Worked in the yard. Chrissy and Stacy came by to walk Booda for us.
Actually it turned into a long, long hike for them.
- Tuesday -
Popcorn and sci-fi horror at Skip's place. (Oh, and I forgot to tell
you that Leo says "Hi," Skip.)
Rich
and Izolda are engaged to be
married on April 23rd 2005! Congratulations you two!
More primitive tech news:
I tried to make fire for our First Friday party and failed miserably.
It didn't help to have lots of people milling about and making comments
like, "hey I got a match" etc. Bad vibes for Og. Had several other
problems: the handboard wasn't lubricated well and the rope slipped on
the spindle. The air was a bit humid and cold, too. LOTS of smoke, no
fire. So I lit the fire with a candle. It was a fine fire anyhow, and
lots of my fire peeps, me included, got soaked while sitting happily by
the fire in the rain.
I've just obtained some straight thistle reeds, which are good for
making fire using the even more primitive hand-drill method— spinning
the thistle by rubbing it between my hands. Gonna try that soon.
