Geoff's Play, Bye Terri, and Superblivion

G: So, Friday I went to the studio to put some handles on some mugs, when John called me and said Dan Hart was at the New Deal that night. For some reason I was thinking he was going to be there Saturday night. So I finished up quickly and got over there. I missed 20-30 minutes of the show, and John showed up about 10 minutes later. The place was pretty full. Dan handed out a list of songs he can play, mostly from the '50's and '60's, to do requests in the last set. He also did two songs John and had missed by being late, just 'cause we asked so nice. Santa-God and I Got A Lobotomy For Christmas. What a guy.

After the show we went over to Dorian and Amethyst's to watch some DVDs. Folks were watching episodes of a short lived sci-fi show called Firefly. We saw two episodes, then watched the movie Iron Monkey.

On Saturday we drove to Alexandria and met Jenny and Carlos at a movie theater there to see The Butterfly Effect. We walked into another movie after that, Cold Mountain. Both were good, but I had a headache that night, perhaps from nearly 5 hours of TENSION.
We ate at an Indian restaurant, then went to Jenny's to lounge around and digest. We happened upon a really bad movie on TV called Deep Rising, and watched almost all of that too. Whew!

The next day we picked up Luisa and went to watch...a PLAY! Bet you thought we were going to see another movie, huh? The guy we met sledding last week, Geoff, was in The Crackpots at the Spectrum Theater in Rosslyn. The performances were great! We hung around talking to Geoff and some cast members after the play, and one of them, Milo, invited us over to his place for a Superbowl party. To show my utter disinterest in the game, I asked, "What's that?", but Luisa took down his address on the premise that it was a very casual, not sports-nutty kind of Superbowl party, and we said we might come. Then we went to find some food. We almost went to the Irish Pub John used to eat at a lot when he worked in Rosslyn, but we looked around and decided on a Cosi just across the street. We had delicious sammitches there. We decided to give the party a try, since Geoff and Milo were so nice and we thought it'd be fun to get to know them better and meet some more nice people.

Luisa had been to the house just a week before, so she knew vaguely where it was, and we had the address, so off we went through Georgetown, up Wisconsin to Chevy Chase. We couldn't really find it with this info, but instead of finding a phone and calling, we went into a CVS and looked at a map. The address said Moreland St. but we didn't see that in the listings of streets. But we found a Moorland (Ln.) and went for that, up further in Bethesda. Well, that didn't work out, so we stopped at a gas station and bought a map, found the real Moreland Street, and had no trouble finding it after that. By that time, we'd eaten half the cookies we bought for the party.

John and ViolinWhen we finally arrived, we were surprised to find we were the first people there, aside from Milo and Geoff. The Superbowl was showing on an itsy-bitsy TV, but no one watched it. We made tea, chatted, and started up a fire in the fireplace. Luisa turned off the TV when everyone agreed there was no reason to have it on. (So we missed the infamous half-time show! Anybody have it on tape?)

Geoff is learning how to play the violin, and John used to play it when he was a kid. I asked John if he would play it for me, and he picked it up and played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star right away with hardly any mistakes, after not having touched one in 28 years! He then played something else, but I was busy making tea and talking with people to pay much attention, I'm sorry to say. More housemates showed up, and a potential housemate (hope I didn't scare her off) came to look at the house, and we had fun conversations for a while but had to go to get home to Booda, to feed him and walk him. He's a good boy.

Terri and EllenJ: Yesterday we went to the New Deal for a going away party for Terri Aquino, who is moving to Australia. We're gonna miss her. She said she wants to learn how to surf. I've always wanted to visit Aussie land, now we don't have much of an excuse (besides the money issue). We have incentive and a place to stay, so I should renew my passport and start saving for a trip to down undah.

This year I'm winning the Superbowl Anti-Trivia game that Gina and I play every year. It's played in rounds -- whoever
first finds out the names of the two teams loses half a point for each team name revealed. Whoever finds out the winning team or the score first loses 1 point for each bit of information. So far I'm winning 2 to nothing. We haven't discovered the score yet. Actually, I didn't even know the Superbowl was happening until Milo mentioned his party! Usually I lose Superbowl Anti-Trivia, because people at work chat about it. This year I've managed to remain mostly oblivious.
