Motor Car, Finally
J: We
bought a car this week. It's a 2001 Chevy Prizm, aka Toyota Clonolla,
silver. We figure that its previous drivers were drug runners, because
they only used it for a couple months, but ran up three thousand miles
on the odometer. Still, those are likely highway miles and drug runners
probably pick reliable cars. Otherwise, the car looks like new (without
the new car stink!), and only has 14,500 miles so far. We like it a
lot. It's a big change from our two old unreliable $1K cars. Suddenly I
feel like driving outside of town! Since we name our cars by the
license plates, and this one is MCF 982, we're thinking MC Funk, McFly,
or somesuch. Any ideas?
G: McFnineight II.
Anyway, we'll save our money for a while again (we didn't have to
borrow any this time) and maybe by the time we need another car we'll
be able to afford a hybrid.
I attended another clay workshop at the Greenbelt studio this weekend.
Led by Mel Jacobson, it
was an enjoyable weekend. He had lots of great stories about his time
working for a master potter in Japan for a year and 1/2, and teaching
pottery to high school kids for 34 years. I threw a few big bowls and
some pitchers.
J: We sat
shiva last Thursday night with Gary Kaplan and his sister Jennifer.
Their mom died recently of cancer, she was 58 years old. We never met
her but she was obviously a wonderful mom, and our condolences go out
to the Kaplan family and their friends.
