Sleep Deprived and Sick
of It
G: On Friday we had our
usual little get together, and we had a lot of fun. We had a nice
little fire out back, and the weather was just right for it, just a bit
chilly. Of course, we were up really late.
Saturday
we got up late, and John went to work to try to stop a leak in the
clean room before going to California for a week. He went back again
later to make sure his rigging was holding up. It was pretty cold
outside, but when he came home he drilled a bunch of holes in some oak
logs that Joe and Meg gave us and I hammered in the shiitake mushroom
plugs. If it goes well, we'll have our own homegrown shiitakes in a
year or so! Leo, Lucy and Kory were visiting while we worked, and then
later Kory went with us to see if there was any room to eat at the New
Deal. Izolda was performing, and so was Zoe Mulford, and there wasn't
much room in the place so we went for Indian food and then went back to
the New Deal for the rest of the show.
Sunday
I had to get up around 6:30am to take John to the airport. The
dang shuttle doesn't run that early. When I got home, Booda really
wanted
to walk, and I was dressed, so we went. I didn't really feel
like running into hunters again like I had the last two Saturdays, so I
was
glad when he passed up the first couple of entrances to the BARC woods.
We got to the one at the end of Laurel Hill, and he started to pass it
up, then turned back toward it. He looked at me and I didn't move. He
looked back at it. I said "Booda," and he started for it. I said
"Booda, no. We can go THAT way, or THAT way," pointing along the fence
and up the hill. He gleefully took off up the hill. He totally knew
what I meant! I was so PROUD!
So I drove to Jenny's and we went to the Whole Foods a few miles from
her place to test drive the 2004
Prius that I've been sorta obsessed about. They were doing a
promotion there. John and I had already figured we're not going to get
one, since we don't really want to blow all of our savings and have car
payments for something we don't really need. If we had more savings, we
would've liked to support the effort to get more hybrids out there, but
we don't even really drive that much. We'll be looking for a good used
car when he gets home.
But I still wanted to see the thing in person. There it was. And I
wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be - it's just a car. It has some
different things about it, and it gets great gas mileage, but it didn't
feel all that special. I still wouldn't mind having one, maybe in a few
years get one used...
We both got $10 gift certificates to Whole Foods for going on a test
drive (Jenny just rode in the back) and filling out a survey. So we
went in and spent it. We went back to Jenny's and hung out talking a
while, then both drove through football traffic back to my house.
After walking Booda we went to the New Deal to see a belly dancing show
with Deborah in it. Again, there wasn't any room inside, and we finally
decided to order food anyway and watch through the window from outside
where it was kinda cold. Then Janet and her mom were leaving and gave
us their seats inside. At intermission it was 7pm, so we left for dance
night at the Conservatory. I had a lot of fun dancing, but I was
exhausted.
Monday night Kory brought over some net flicks dvds and we watched a
very poorly put together series of clips of stand up comedians when
they were quite young and not yet famous. It was only marginally funny.
The Best of Adam Sandler from Saturday Night Live was funnier.
So I stayed up too late that night too. Last night I was exhausted by
11pm, and today I have some sort of mild cold. I need to get more
sleep.
