One of These Clays

J:  Gina left on Thursday afternoon to attend a ceramic convention. She didn't come back until Sunday afternoon, so she missed our monthly party, which I managed to host in semi-ginohn mode. I started a nice fire in our little fire pit out back, and visited it regularly through the night. I ended up sitting there with the last of the stragglers -- Leo P. and Gary B. -- until the wee hours of the morning when the fire died down and I retreated to the house for warmth. I guess I fell asleep around five on Saturday morning, and woke up later to put Booda (he was lonely) into bed with me and Mango. Sometimes sleeping with real animals is even more cozy than sleeping with toy animals. It's certainly warmer.

I woke up later to Meg and Joe, but especially their kids Billy and Leo, making noise downstairs. They had brought their RV to the party and slept in it, but came inside in the morning to get out of the cold. I made some breakfast and coffee, and then we all went for a walk with Booda down the road into BARC. We saw goats and a large, strange looking eagle. We also saw lots of bicyclists returning from a big cancer fund raiser.

After the Naabs left, I cleaned up a little and entered some serious goof-off state, where I mostly lay around on the couch playing music and watching TV. Here's an interesting few minutes of syncronicity I stumbled upon while randomly lazing about:
  • Get the CD for Pink Floyd's Meddle (my favorite Floyd album) ready to play the first track, "One of These Days", then pause it.
  • Turn on a tape or DVD of The Iron Giant (one of my favorite animated movies ever) and mute the sound for the movie.
  • Right when the words "WARNER BROS. presents" appears on the screen (after the WB seal fades out), start the CD.
  • Play both of them until Hogarth pulls up to the diner. After that it's a wash.
I played it later for Gina and Kory, and they were both highly entertained. They said things like "Whoa," and "Wow!" It ain't no Dark Side of the Rainbow since it loses sync right after the sun appears, but the whole beginning of the video rocks.

Went to Izolda's annual celebration of her birth tonight, at a Greek restaurant. Looked like half the people in the restaurant were there for Izolda. We made a lot of noise and ate a lot of food. Now I'm out of time to tell you more news. So there.

G:
The 5th Mid-Atlantic Clay Conference was a lot of fun, just like the last one two years ago. The main presenters were Julia Galloway, Judith Duff, and Mark Shapiro. They all had quite different styles of work, and the day and a half that they presented went by fast. I also watched demonstrations by Jane Cullum and Beth Kendall. It's very inspiring and informative to watch those who have mastered clay.

It may not seem worth mentioning, but I'm excited that the 3rd season of Mr. Show is out on DVD! We saw half of it last night, Kory had rented it, but had to take it back tonight. We'll own it soon, though.
