Joms Moot

G: Ginohn turned six on Saturday, still going strong. If that sounds like gibberish to you, it means it was our sixth anniversary. I saw some of the people who helped out with the wedding this weekend and told them all thanks again and toasted them. I ordered a camcorder, a digital Sony that will play my old 8mm tapes! When we were on our vacation I kept wishing I had one, and my old was is broken. I also got John a Leatherman Juice S2, but I paid too much so I'm taking it back and ordering another one online.

J: Happy Anniversary, Ginohn! The Juice is really cool. It's small enough to fit in my pocket and has just the right variety of tools. Gina often knows the exact gift to surprise me with. I used the Juice (and some bike tools) to replace the broken shifter on her bike.

I also replaced my flat inner tube, and as I pumped it up it suddenly exploded! That never happened to me before. My left ear rang after the bang, and hurt for about an hour. I pumped up the next one with extreme care. I bought new tires too. The old ones are falling apart a little where the tire meets the rim, and the inner tube probably herniated out from the side before it exploded.

G: So we went to the Joms reunion on Saturday at Joe and Meg's and had a heck of a time with Booda. Kaethe, Thom's German sheperd, was all over Booda, running alongside him and jumping on him. He didn't like that, but it kept him from chasing the chickens.  When Booda got fed up he snapped at her and they got into a row. She chewed on his ear hair while he tried to run away. So Booda had all sorts of things stressing him out - Kaethe, children, thunder and lighting, other loud noises - and needed to be coddled and watched over so he didn't run away too far.

Then when we went to bed very late in the RV, where others were also sleeping, we stayed up nearly all night trying to keep him from barking at every noise. I finally fell asleep around what must have been six in the morning when the chickens started crowing and John had to try and keep Booda from barking every time. When it seemed to me that he stopped and went to sleep, I was able to, but John said he kept a hold of his collar to keep him quiet. I don't know if John got any sleep. We got up around 9. But I had fun anyway!

J: I had a good time too, but next year I think Booda will stay home. That way both he and I won't stress out so much.

This was the second annual Monarchist Party & Joms Viking Reunion, and we had visitors from near and far. Karen Laur surprised me, she showed up without notice from the West Coast! She looks very much the same as she did 15 years ago, still very pretty but with less hair. She said she told her friends in San Fransisco (I had no idea she lives there now) that she planned to "revisit my twenties." I thought that was a great description of the event. We all got to act like we were twenty again, and we only incurred minor injuries.

Mostly we drank a lot, joked around, and asked lots of "so, what have you been up to lately" questions. Joe put on two spectacular bonfires, with gas and kerosene pyrotechnics. My brother Thom brought some military toys, including his little Ferret scout car. Later it rained and lots of people stood under a tent and passed around a couple bottles of whiskey, then dried out by walking near or through the fire. I forgot my camera, but Stacey Abbott sent a couple random pictures. On the left is a link to Choat and Leo (with
Trog and Buckley nearby); and on the right is Hyalti.

The next day Meg cooked up a really nice breakfast and the party stragglers cleaned up a little and dragged themselves off. Meg and Joe are incredibly generous and put on a great party.

They have a lovely small pool that looks more like a pond because the floor and wall are dark and the edges are lined with large stones and a waterfall. We hung out with lots of friends and little kids. It was really nice.

In other news, our TV broke a while back, and we were looking at some new ones, but we thought we'd put the word out for any used ones anyone might want to get rid of. We don't have cable and we don't watch much TV, and haven't missed it really, but need one to watch all the tapes we have if we ever want to, and to go with my new camcorder!

Lately I've done some sewing, made a few Mufraj pillows. I'm kinda planning another quilt, but must get some expert (Jenny) advice. Also, today was the last day of "reflux therapy," I've been feeling mostly better these days, but a tight feeling in the throat still lingers a bit. We'll see how it goes without any meds. If nothing happens I guess I will go on my merry way, otherwise it'll be back to the GI specialist or maybe an Ear-Nose-Throat person.
