Friends Keep Feeding Us
G: On
Friday night Gary came over and we watched Super Troopers. Gary didn't
want to watch it on our computer monitor, but we made him, and he liked
it a lot. It's a very funny movie.
J: Saturday we missed Balticon and the
Pop-Tart Cafe because our car wouldn't start. Gimmik's like that
sometimes when it rains for a long time. Distributer gets wet or
something.
So instead we stayed home and milled about. I installed a USB 2.0 port
on the 'puter, which coincidentally fixed an intermittent lockup problem
we've had when downloading big chunks of data. To test the 'puter's new
streaming capabilities, I happily listened to didjeridu radio all day at joyousnoise. and watched Go
games on the Yahoo
Go server. I'm too intimidated to play yet, but I like to watch.
Meanwhile Gina made chocolate cupcakes. We took them to Deb and Eryq's
party (the car managed to start, yay).
G: They put out a tremendous spread, as they
always do for their parties. We were the first to arrive besides Deb's
father, and among the last to leave. We chatted mostly with Rich and a
young woman named Jessie, and after midnight the four of us and our
hosts were the only ones left, and we all talked and joked for a few
more hours.
J: I ate too much. On Sunday we went to
Kathy Fargo's graduation party, and I ate too much again. Kathy's been
working on her degree, and a
job, and raising her kids,
for many years now. She came away with a double bachelor's in Art
History and Fine Arts. Congrats Kathy! I ran into her Uncle Dan at the
party, whom I knew from work (but I didn't know he was her Uncle).
Haven't seen him since January when he was laid off. He's doing well
though; bringing in the unemployment checks and otherwise retired.
G: John's handywork on the computer made it
possible for me to listen to Dr. Demento online Sunday night! I've tried
before but it always crapped out on me. Great timing because his guest
was Weird Al, the Doctor interviewed him about his new album, Poodle Hat, which we've been
enjoying quite a bit around here.
On Monday Margit had a Memorial day potluck party. I made a gi-normous
batch of pasta salad and ate mostly that. John and I were boring, we
just sat on the couch, eating, and listening in on conversations. There
were some people I didn't know very well and some I didn't know at all, so I
didn't say much.
J: I ate too much at that party too.
After work on Tuesday Dorian and I had plans to watch the classic sci-fi film Forbidden Planet on a big screen TV
at my Dad's place. Some critics say that Forbidden Planet was based
loosely on The Tempest, and since we had both recently played for
several Tempest performances, we decided to see the movie. Dorian flaked
out though and double booked a concert with someone else that night, so
he didn't show up. But John Marketon and Kory both came, and we had a
good time watching the movie, while eating Dad's peanuts and popcorn,
and drinking his wine. OK, Kory didn't have any of the
food and drinks, but he managed to make it through the movie intact.
Then after the movie (which I hope to HMR soon) we talked about lots of
other books and movies.
The rain, which seems to have been going on and off for the last forty
days and nights, isn't bothering me yet. Our woods has become lush and
deep green all through. I'm finding lots of mushrumps, mostly of the Russula variety. I'm enjoying the cool wet weather while I can. We'll
be surrounded by Summer soon.
