J: I'm a little behind tonight, so I'll bullet
our
week:
- We had an
impromptu game night on Thursday night. We tried a slight variant of
Werewolf. I thought it worked well.
- On Saturday I
went running for the first time in a few years. Then I pulled ivy from
around trees and fences in our yard. For the next two days I felt like
I
was walking on stilts -- stiff, sore stilts.
- Nevertheless I
helped Skip and Lindsey move on Sunday. They took Gina and me out to a
Thai dinner.
- Then Gina and I
went to Renee and Alex's house for an Oscar party. The Academy Awards
were more entertaining than last year (for me), due to the politics of
the day and Steve Martin's one-liners. Many news reports said that Michael
Moore's infamous Bush blast received "a storm of boos" but, in my
unbiased opinion (grin), it sounded like a few loud guys booed, some
more people cheered, and the majority kept quiet (out of fears of box
office boycotts, probably).
- I liked Bowling
for Columbine, but I think Moore won the Oscar because the Academy
split
the vote. All the antiwar votes went for Columbine, and the rest of the
Academy voted for the other four nominees. This isn't the first time
Moore won by a split. According to Moore when he was 18 he ran for
school superintendent. So many adults were afraid he might win that
they
added five more candidates, which split the vote. Moore won.
- Dad's been sick,
and I'm frustrated that he refuses to see a doctor. Ultimately it's his
choice, but I don't think he realizes how much he's scaring his family.
- Meanwhile Mom's
husband, David, went to the hospital with chest pains and vertigo. The
latest news is that there is no evidence of a heart attack.
