Happy New Hair!

G: Almost my entire life, I've had basically the same hairstyle. My childhood photos all show me with long hair and bangs. In middle school, there was the Farrah Fawcett phase, where the sides were layered and feathered, but still long in back. In high school I had one successful perm, which was still long of course. When that was about half grown out I tried to recapture the look with another perm that looked awful, turned it to frizz with poodle-ear-like sides. When that grew out to my shoulders I got all the perm cut off, and that is the shortest it ever was, until now.

For a while I've been bothered by my hair. It's pretty manageable in the summer, but in the winter the dryness and static often made me crazy. It seems like I could only make it look decent for a few minutes at a time. I didn't know what to do (I've always identified myself as a long hair type person, and I've been ingrained in the long-hair-worship/culture at Wunderland), but I had to do something. While in Florida I had the idea to have my sister Lori take me to her hairdresser (her hair looks great lately, long) to figure something out. I imagined maybe getting bleached streaks or something, just for something different for a change (mid-life crisis?), and because of the New Year party I was planning on attending asked for outrageousness.

Well, sitting in the chair talking to the hairdresser, I felt like this was someone who knew what she was doing. She understood all of my concerns and problems. I quickly agreed to what she wanted to do. There was never a moment of decision to get my hair cut short, I  just sort of let it happen. Lori was much more freaked than I was as it was cut off. Actually, I wasn't freaked at all, I was ready. I could always grow it back! I got some highlights too. And I am really happy about it. I think it looks great, everyone else seems to think it looks great. I donated the 10 inches they cut off to whatever organization they have that takes human hair to make into wigs for people in chemo.

I had a good time in Florida. We found a great Italian restaurant for a family dinner Xmash eve (Lori treated), and I spent hours the next day cooking and peeling chestnuts for Xmash dinner. As for presents, I got most of the things I asked for from everyone and then some. On Monday Mom and I drove up to Kennedy Space Center, which I was surprised to find was set up kind of like an amusement park - expensive admission, fancy grounds. We didn't realize how much time we'd need to see it all, so we missed some of it, but had a good time. We saw an IMAX film about the space station, with lots of footage of people being weightless. We also saw a Saturn V moon rocket, and touched a moon rock.

I got back yesterday morning, and last night we went to Dorian and Amethyst's New Year party. We both had a great time. When we get some pics from Dorian we'll tell you more about it - but it was pretty outrageous.

J: Until Gina came back home yesterday, I went to my Dad's yearly Boxing Day party, packed with familia. I also hosted a couple game nights -- Ken, Jake, and Chris in one all night session, playing Acquire, Perudo, and Shaufenster, and playtesting a card game I continue to struggle with; and on a different night I played Evo with Chris, Leo, Paul, and Bruce.

I love Gina's new look! Happy New Hair!
